Battery Recycling

If you’re experiencing charging issues, a check engine light, or a vehicle that is hesitant to start, come get your battery tested!

Many drivers don’t realise that the battery in their vehicle is a consumable item, with most types of automotive batteries typically having a lifespan of around 3 to 5 years, even under ideal conditions.

What happens with old batteries?

Automotive batteries are made of many different materials, the main being lead. Other salvageable parts include sulphuric acid and plastic housings.

Once an automotive battery is incapable of holding a charge, that battery is permanently used and should be recycled appropriately.

Battery recycling programs can typically recover between 95-98% of the lead from an old battery, the old plastic casings are shredded, and the acid can be recovered and filtered to be reused.

Tyrepower stores across the country have signed up to be members of Century Batteries Australia’s recycling program. We will take your old batteries and collect them on behalf of recycling facilities at no extra cost to you.

Automotive battery recycling collection points are available at selected stores only, please contact 13 21 91 to speak to your local store or find your nearest Tyrepower here.
